A college student has died reportedly from alcohol poisoning in Bogra's Sariakandi upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Habib Hasan, 25, a student of the humanities department in Chandan Baisha Degree College of the upazila.
Confirming the death, Sariakandi police station Officer-in-Charge Al Amin said: “We suspect that he died due to drinking spurious liquor.”
According to locals and police, Habib along with Sanwar Hossain, 25, and Diganta Tarafdar, 24, were taken to Sariakandi Upazila Health Complex as they fell ill after consuming toxic rectified spirit on Sunday night.
All three of them were referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH). Habib died on the way to SZMCH and the two others were given treatment at the hospital.
