A woman was reportedly gang-raped in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj on Saturday.
She filed a written complaint in this regard on Monday night with Araihazar police station.
Mokbul, 40, Md Abu, 38, Jasim, 40, and Md Dalim, 38, are accused of the rape. They are from the Kakrail Mor village in Araihazar upazila.
The incident occurred at the Shantirbazar Kakrail Intersection New Road area of the Araihazar Upazila on Saturday night.
Araihazar police station Officer In-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to police, the victim, a garment worker, was returning to her in-laws from her workplace in Rupganj on Saturday night.
At around 10:30 pm, she was waiting for a rickshaw in the Shantirbazar area when the four accused approached her and offered to drop her home.
When the victim refused the offer, they forcibly took her to a nearby secluded area and gang-raped her. Later, she was rescued by two young men who helped her reach home.
The victim’s husband said: “Although the incident occurred on Saturday night, my wife did not disclose it due to the fear of being socially ostracized and went to work on Sunday morning as usual.”
“After learning about the incident from locals in the area, I contacted her on her cellphone but she did not take my call. She later told us about the incident on Monday evening. Then we went to the police station to take legal steps,” he added.
The victim told Dhaka Tribune: “I am still in Araihazar police station. Many locally influential people are trying to resolve the situation by unscrupulous means. But I won’t let that happen. The criminals must be brought to justice.”
OC Nazrul Islam said a case will be filed in this regard. They are trying to arrest the accused.
