Two more arrested over Pirojpur triple murder

Police on Saturday arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the killings of three of a family including a 3-year-old in Pirojpur.

The arrestees Oli Biswas, 38, and Rakib Bepari, 20, both auto-rickshaw drivers were arrested during a joint drive by Mathbaria police station and Pirojpur Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Pirojpur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Hayatul Islam Khan confirmed the arrest in a press briefing on Saturday.

On July 31, assuming that the now deceased persons possessed a lot of money and jewelry in their house, four people  broke into the family’s house for a robbery, said SP Hayatul.

The four initially killed Aynal Hoque and his wife Khuku Moni after the couple was able to identify them. Subsequently, the 3-year-old Ashfiya was killed after the killers had a discussion between them if the infant should be murdered, according to the SP.

On July 31, police found the family dead from a rented house at Dhanisafa village in Pirojpur's Mathbaria upazila.

A total of six people were arrested in this connection and two other suspects are currently on the run, said SP Hayatur without disclosing the identities of the absconding suspects.

Five teams of law enforcers including the Rapid Action Battalion, DB police and Police Bureau of Investigation of Mathbaria circle are working on the field on the case, added the SP.
