Erosion hits Padma Bridge construction yard

The construction yard for the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project has been affected by erosion in Lohajang upazila of Munshiganj.

As a result, expensive materials kept at the yard intended for the bridge construction including 30-40 slabs of the bridge, 15-20 railway girders and 10-20 pipes have been lost to the River Padma on Friday. The boundary wall of Mawa construction yard was also damaged.

Engineer Dewan Md Abdul Kader, project manager (main bridge), confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “We failed to move expensive materials, which were at risk of erosion, with mechanical cranes.”
