4 suspected drug dealers killed in Teknaf 'gunfight'

Four suspected drug dealers have been killed in a gunfight between two groups of peddlers in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The incident took place in Kharangkhali area around 4am on Tuesday.

The deceased are -- Anwar Hossain, 23, Ismail, 24, Nasir, 24, and another Anwar Hossain, 22, all residents of the upazila.

Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) ABM Masud Hossain said upon being informed about a gunfight between two groups of drug dealers, a team of Teknaf police rushed to the spot. 

Sensing their presence, the drug peddlers fled the scene.

Later, police rescued four bullet-wounded men and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty physicians declared them dead, the SP said.

The bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police recovered 50,000 yaba tablets, two locally made guns, and eight bullets from the spot.

In another development, police recovered the body of an unidentified young man with bullet wounds from Kabita Chattar in Cox's Bazar town on Tuesday morning.

The law enforcers also recovered a locally made gun, a cartridge, two empty shells, and 100 yaba tablets from the spot.

Cox's Bazar Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shajahan Kabir said the body was sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

"We are trying to identify the man," he added.
