Five people were sued at court over allegedly harassing a female Upazila Parishad Chairman in Jessore's Manirampur.
The upazila chairman Nazma Khanam filed a case at the court of Judicial Magistrate Monjurul Islam over her harassment on Monday.
The accused were identified as Manirampur Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Uttom Chakroborty Bacchu, Jhanpa Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Shamsul Haque Montu, Bhojgati UP Chairman Abdur Rajjak, Jolly Akhter and Kabir Khan.
According to the case statement, Upazila Vice Chairman Uttam Chakroborti is involved with misappropriating 555 sacks of relief rice. Arrestees accused in the misappropriation case testified against the vice chairman at court in this regard. Upazila Chairman Nazma has always been vocal about her deputy's irregularities which has angered the latter.
On Wednesday (July 22), a meeting of a law enforcing committee was held at the Upazila Parishad office's auditorium, when all of a sudden UP Chairman Shamsul Haque Montu flared up and began verbally harassing Nazma. At one point, Nazma left the meeting room when the accused persons harassed her by pulling her clothes. Moreover, her personal assistant was also beaten , the case details further added.
Nazma's lawyer Advocate Abdul Latif said the court has accepted their case and it has ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.
