Bangladeshi expat businessman killed in South Africa

Miscreants reportedly set a Bangladeshi expat shop owner on fire in South Africa's Pretoria city, which later killed him on Sunday while he was undergoing treatment in a local hospital, according to the victim's family.

The deceased is Farid Bepari, son of Nurul Hoque Bepari, from Rajoir upazila of Madaripur, said Farid's cousin Sujon.

On Friday, miscreants went for a heist at Farid's shop in Haramkua area of Pretoria around 8am local time. They bound his hands and feet with rope and set him afire, before plundering his shop, said Sujon.

Farid was admitted into a local hospital where he died at around 2am of South Africa's time on Sunday, Sujon added.

The victim's father Nurul Hoque Bepari said: "I have sent my son to a foreign country to bring solvency to my family. But criminals killed him. I urge the government so that at least his body is brought back to us."

Rajoir police station OC Md Sheikh Sadik said: "If our help is sought in this regard we will try our best."
