An assistant surgeon of a health centre in Jhalakathi has been asked to explain why departmental action will not be taken against him for criticizing the health services of the government.
Tipu Sultan, the assistant surgeon of Dapdapia Union Health Centre in Nalchity upazila, was issued the letter on Friday by Dr Shiuly Parvin, the health and family planning officer.
In a recent post, which has now been removed, Tipu claimed that the government has been giving fake N95 masks to healthcare personnel which may have caused some doctors to get infected.
The show-cause letter alleged that Tipu posted a Facebook status that upheld partial representation of the government's health division and made a “mockery” of the government sector.
It added that his Facebook post was a violation of "civility" and government officers' code of conduct, which is a punishable offence.
The letter also pointed out that his Facebook post violated the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules-2018.
Tipu expressed that he is feeling ashamed after posting the status and has understood his mistake.
He has been directed to reply within three working days from the day he received the notice.
Dr Sultan was a graduate of the 39th Bangladesh Civil Service examination and a graduate of Faridpur Medical College.
