Feni ‘drug trader’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with rivals

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with rivals in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam Nakul 32, son of Sheikh Ahmed Joypur village Shuvopur union of the upazila.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chhagalnaiya police station Mezbah Uddin, said on information that two groups of drug traders were trading gunshots, a team of police went to the village in the early hours.

Sensing the presence of police, the criminals locked in gunfight escaped the scene. Police found the bullet-hit body of Nazrul on the spot, OC Mezbah said, adding that the “gunfight” might have taken place over establishing dominance in the village.

The police officer also said Nazrul was wanted in nine cases filed at their police station.

Nazrul died when he was being sent to Feni General Hospital, said the OC.

Police seized a gun, 20 bottles phensedyl and 200 yaba tablets.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue, said Iqbal Hossain Bhuyan, residential medical officer of Feni General Hospital.
