Tornadoes destroy 100 houses in Bhola

At least 100 houses in Bhola's Monpura and Charfashion have been destroyed after being hit by tornadoes. Locals say Charjatin and Sonarchar villages suffered most damaged. “Fifty houses have been severely damaged in Kolatoli Char,” Monpura Union Parishad Chairman Amanat Ullah said. One of the victims, Md Alauddin from Charjatin village, said: “We woke up to a very loud sound, as if there was thunder. Suddenly, the wind tore off the roof of my house.” Monpura's Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sohagh Hawlader said the administration had been informed about the damage. “We are looking into it,” he said. Meanwhile in Charfashion, another 50 houses were destroyed by a tornado around Thursday midnight. Numerous trees were also uprooted, said Charfashion's Upazila Parishad Chairman Joynal Akand. The extent of the damage is yet to be determined.
