2 suspected criminals killed in ‘gunfights’ in Cox’s Bazar and Bogra

Two alleged criminals on law enforcers’ hit list have been killed in reported gunfights in Cox’s Bazar and Bogra on Wednesday.

In Bogra, a man accused in seven cases filed were killed in an alleged gunfight with rival groups.

The incident took place around 2am on Wednesday, at Nishindara Chakarpara area of Bogra city, said Bogra Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayan Kabir.

The deceased has been identified as Amin Sheikh Rabbi, son of Khalekuzzaman Helal of Sultanganjpara area of Bogra city.

According to a post from the Facebook page of Bogra District Police, the deceased had altogether seven cases filed against him and was charged with murder, murder attempt, illegal possesion of arms and drug dealing.

The Facebook post read, led by Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanatan Chakraborty police went to the area after being tipped off that a gunfight was ongoing between two groups of miscreants.

When law enforcers reached the spot the miscreants fled and police found a body,which locals identified as Rabbi’s, the post also read.

Police recovered two rounds of bullets and a gun from the spot.

Rabbi’s mother Hawa Bibi and other family members claimed: "Although Rabbi was involved in crimes in the past, he moved away from that. Police took Rabbi from home around 1am on Wednesday," adding that Rabbi was out on bail a few days ago.

In Cox's Bazar, a suspected Rohingya robber has been killed in an alleged gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Damdamia Jahajghat area in Hnila union of Teknaf.

The gunfight took place around 3:30am on Wednesday when RAB conducted a raid in the area after being tipped off that robbers were preparing for a heist, said Azim Ahmed, wing commander of Cox's Bazar RAB-15.

The deceased Md Rashid Ullah, 28, was a listed robber and was a member of a Rohingya terrorist gang known as the Khalek-group, added Azim.

Rashid, son of Shafiq Ullah is from Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila.

RAB said two of their members were injured during the gunfight and they recovered two light guns and five rounds of bullets from the spot.
