Son stages own kidnapping to get ransom money from father

A man married his beloved and got a job as a supplier, but it was not enough for his wife. So, he decided to leave his job and open up a business and he had the plan to get the required money from his father by pretending to be kidnapped.

He tied his hands and feet and called his father from the side of the road.

The incident took place in Lalpur upazila of Natore.

The young man confessed the matter to the police during interrogation, confirmed Lalpur Police Station OC Selim Reza.

After interrogation, the police handed the man over to his father on Monday afternoon.

The name of the player in this abduction drama is Himel, 20. He is the son of Ayub Ali of Mahadevpara in Ahmedpur upazila.

OC Selim Reza said Himel, son of day laborer Ayub Ali, fell in love and took a job as a supplier of Pran company after marriage.

Low income probably became an issue for the couple and at one point,  during one of their disputes, he left home  on July 16. He then went to Raninagar via Atrai in Naogaon. He distorted his voice on the phone and called his father.

Pretending to be the kidnapper he demanded Tk3 lakh as ransom. The poor day labourer father could not arrange the money and lodged a written complaint with the police station requesting to rescue his son.

Then the police got to work. In the pretence of negotiating the amount police tried to understand the situation by talking to him over the phone.

Then at one stage it was decided that Tk50,000 will be given as ransom. Himel came to Natore from Raninagar to collect the money.

He stayed at a hotel in the city, and hired a man by paying Tk500 to take photos of him getting beaten while being tied up.

Then he sent the photos to his family.

Finally, without receiving any money, he called his father on Sunday night and, pretending to be the kidnapper, said: "You will find your son at Nantu's mango orchard at night."

At around 11pm, he rented a pickup from Natore to Dashuria for Tk700. When he reached Chandpur area of the upazila, he got out of the car. Then he tied his own hands and feet with rope and called his father.

Family members and relatives took him off the road and took him to hospital thinking he was ill.

He was first admitted to Gopalpur Muktar General Hospital and later to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex. Upon receiving the news, the police came to question him on Monday morning and took him to the police station.

In response to a question, the OC further said that Himel had admitted everything during the interrogation. Later in the afternoon he was handed over to his father.
