An elderly tigress was found dead near Andharmanik forest camp under Khulna forest range in the Sundarbans.
"We found the tigress dead on Saturday afternoon and later conducted an autopsy and buried the corpse after skinning, near the camp in Koyra upazila," said Bashir-Al- Mamun, divisional forest officer (DFO), Sundarbans West Range, Khulna.
"The officials of Andharmanik forest camp saw the tigress- aged between 14 to 15 - six to seven days ago and were keeping eye on it. The tigress died sometime between morning and noon on Friday." he said.
"Veterinarian from Khulna examined the tigress and collected its organs for autopsy. The tigress had severe injuries on two of its paws and on its cheek. So, it couldn't hunt for prey and might have died of hunger,” said the DFO.
"But, the actual cause of the death can be known after getting the autopsy report," added Bashir.
