A woman sustained critical burns after acid was thrown at her allegedly by her estranged husband in Jessore.
The incident took place around 2am on Monday in the woman's house in Laujani area of Jhikargacha when she was sleeping with her daughter.
The victim Rina Begum, 40, is currently undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital, said Dr Kamruzzaman of the hospital.
"The woman sustained burns on her face, chest, back, and partially on her hands. She was referred to Dhaka as her condition is critical, but her family is not capable of taking her there," added Dr Kamruzzaman.
While talking to this correspondent at the hospital, Rina and her daughter said that the accused is a drug addict and often assaulted her when they used to stay together.
Rina said due to the abuses she faced, she left her husband's home in Noapara village of the upazila 15 days ago and living with her daughter separately in Laujani ever since.
Jhikargacha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said: "Police visited the woman but no one has made complaints regarding the matter yet."
