Gazipur child rescued 2 days after abduction

Police rescued a 3 year old child two days after he was kidnapped from the Madhyapara village of  Gazipur Sadar upazila.

The child, Abdullah, was rescued from the Kathalbari ferry ghat area in Madaripur by Shibchar police before he was handed over to his family on Friday afternoon.

Abdullah’s mother Sazeda Akhter said her husband works overseas and is currently staying in Greece. She lived in her own house with Abdullah in the Madhyapara village of Gachha union in  Gazipur Sadar upazila.

“On Tuesday, a woman became a tenant in my house and  developed a warm relationship with me by cooking food for me and with her nice behaviour,” said Sazeda.

Sazeda said she accepted the woman's offer when the woman wanted to take her child to the market on Wednesday. But the woman abducted the child and demanded a ransom of Tk700,000 later.

After Sazeda filed a case at Gachha police station, police and Rapid Action Battalion started investigating the matter. But the kidnappers kept changing their location, said Gachha police station Sub-Inspector, Udayan Bikash Barua.

Shibchar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said: "We found the child at Kathalbari ferry ghat. After calling a mobile number written on his clothing we found out that he had been kidnapped. The child was handed over to his family."
