Covid-19: Doctor hailed as ‘poor man’s hope’ tests positive

A doctor—praised by many for treating poor coronavirus patients for just a fee of Tk10—has been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Satkhira.

Dr Md Ebadullah, known for his generosity and obligation to duty, learned that his Covid-19 test result came back positive on Thursday.

The veteran physician and vice president of Satkhira BMA is currently undergoing treatment at the ICU unit of Satkhira Medical College Hospital.

His son, Niaz Wahid, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Niaz Wahid said: “I used to tell my old father not to provide medical services during the pandemic for the safety of his own health. But he used to say, if I stop treating patients, those who come here from far away, where will they go to get treatment?

“My father fell ill right after seeing a patient in his chamber after 4pm on Saturday. We rushed him to Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Later, a CT scan of his chest showed signs of coronavirus in the lungs. He has been undergoing treatment in the ICU unit of Satkhira Medical College Hospital since then.”

Currently, his physical condition is much better than before, he added.
