Wanted criminal killed in Cox's Bazar shootout

A notorious criminal who was wanted by the police in several cases including rape and murder—Syed Ahmed alias Guraputu—was killed in a reported shootout between two rival groups of suspected yaba traders in Cox’s Bazar. 

Police recovered his bullet-riddled body in Kabita Satter area under Sadar upazila early Friday morning.

Two hundred yaba pills, a locally-made weapon, and two bullet cartridges were also recovered from the spot.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station Inspector (operations) Md Masum Khan confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Guraputu was the son of Sabbir Ahmed of Isulughona in Cox’s Bazar town.

The police official said: “We received information of an active gunfight between two rival groups concerning yaba trade early Friday. When a team from the police station went to the spot, the men engaged in a gunfight fled the scene. Police later recovered Guraputu’s bullet-riddled body from the scene of the crime.”

“He was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. His body was transferred to the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy,” said the inspector.

According to police, Guraputu was a notorious criminal in Cox’s Bazar and there were seven cases filed against him, including murder and rape.
