Man, accused in 5 cases, killed in Pabna ‘gunfight’

A suspected criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Sadar upazila’s Shibrampur area of Pabna.

The incident took place in Shibrampur’s swiss gate area in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, Tanjil Sheikh, 35, is the son of Babu Sheikh of Ramchandrapur area and was accused in five criminal cases lodged in different police stations of the district.

Tipped off of their whereabouts, police made a drive to the area and upon their arrival, Tanjil and his associates started firing at them initiating a gunfight, said Nasim Ahmed, OC of Pabna Sadar police station.

“When we retaliated, the other outlaws fled the scene leaving the injured Tanjil behind, we took him to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead,” added the officer.

Police also recovered multiple firearms from the spot. Filing of a case is underway, police said.
