A Bangladesh Chhatra league leader has been arrested for making a derogatory Facebook post about Manikganj 1 MP Naimur Rahman Durjoy.
The accused Hamza Khan Rana is the joint secretary of Chhatra League’s Manikganj district unit. He was produced before a court on Friday afternoon, which later sent him to jail.
On June 13, a case was filed against three people including him under the Digital Security Act by Shajib Mir, the religious affairs secretary of Awami Jubo League’s Gheor upazila unit.
Hamza Khan posted a status about lawmaker Durjoy, who is also a former captain of Bangladesh cricket team, claiming that he was involved in land grabbing and “immoral” activities, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdus Salam of Gheor police station.
Kazi Raju Ahmed Bulbul, president of Chhatra League district unit, said: “Chhatra League cannot be held responsible for the crime Hamza has committed. Initially a show cause letter was sent to him, for which he provided no response.”
Bulbul said that the matter will be informed to the Chhatra League’s central committee and organizational actions will also be taken against him.
