A Bangladeshi man was shot dead and another injured by Indian Khashias inside Indian territory near the Gowainghat border in Sylhet.
The deceased was identified as Md Siraj Miya, 45, from Domdoma village, and the injured was identified as Md Nazim Uddin, 38, from the same village.
The incident occurred when four Bangladeshis trespassed into Indian territory to steal pineapples from an Indian Khasi village around 4pm on Thursday, said Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil, commanding officer of BGB 48 Battalion in Sylhet.
"When the four Bangladeshis entered Indian territory, Khasi citizens of the village fired at them with local firearms, which left one person dead one other injured," Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil said.
"The body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The injured has been sent to a hospital in Sylhet," Gowainghat police station OC Md Abdul Ahad.
Earlier on June 10, another Bangladeshi man named Mintu Miya was shot dead by Indian Khashias along Bisanakandi border in the district.
