Another accused in the Dhaka University student Sumaiya Khatun murder case - her mother-in-law Syeda Maleka Akhtar - has been put on a one-day remand.
Natore Senior Judicial Magistrate Khorshed Alom passed the order on Sunday afternoon.
Confirming the matter, inspector Abdul Matin, the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said: "We produced Sumaiya's mother-in-law Syeda Maleka Akhtar and sister-in-law Jakia Yasmin Juthi before the court with a seven-day remand prayer."
The court granted a one-day remand for Syeda Maleka Akhtar and asked police to interrogate Jakia Yasmin Juthi at jail gate, added Abdul Matin.
Earlier on Friday, Sumaiya's husband Mostak Hossain and father-in-law Zakir Hossain were remanded for three days.
Sumaiya Khatun, who completed her BA and MA from the Islamic Studies department, was tortured to death by her in-laws on June 15 as she wanted to join the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), according to Sumaiya's mother Nuzhat Sultana.
"My daughter was left dead at Natore Sadar Hospital," she added.
Following the incident, Nuzhat Sultana filed a case with Natore Sadar police station, accusing four members of her in-law's family.
The accused are Sumaiya's husband Mostak Hossain, her father-in-law Jakir Hossain, mother-in-law Syeda Maleka Akhtar, and sister-in-law Jakia Yasmin Juthi.
