Police foiled a procession brought out by the Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) or Bam Ganatantrik Jote in Narayanganj on Sunday morning.
The leaders and activists of the alliance brought out the procession at around 11am, demanding a 20 percent allocation of the total budget to health care and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at 300-bed Khanpur Hospital.
They also demanded an end to the test kit crisis at Khanpur hospital.
Police foiled the procession when it reached the Deputy Commissioner's office. Later, the leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance held a rally in front of the main gate.
Naryanganj district Communist Party president Hafizul Islam, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad) Narayanganj unit Coordinator Nikhil Das, and general secretary of Narayangnaj Biplobi Workers Party, Abu Hasan Tipu, were present at the rally.
The leaders said despite the Prime Minister's directives, an ICU has not been installed at the Khanpur hospital yet.
Apart from that, Covid-19 testing has been halted due to a test kit crisis in the hospital. But authorities have not taken a single initiative to end the crisis. The health system is taken over by profit mongers, they alleged.
