A tornado lashed Shyamnagar upazila of the district on Thursday morning, damaging at least 50 houses and uprooting trees in the area.
The two minutes long tornado coupled with rain swept through the upazila around 12am, said locals, reports our correspondent.
It blew roofs off many houses and uprooted many trees, said Shaheb Ali, Fazer Gazi, who lost their homes in the storm.
Noor Islam and Mobarak Sana, said their houses were blown off during the storm, forcing them to leave their valuables under the open sky.
Shyamnagar UNO ANM Abujar Gifari said: “I just learnt about the incident from the locals. I asked the UP members to make a list of the people who lost their houses and faced damages. We will surely try to help them.”
