Covid-19: Brahmanbaria town partially marked Red Zone, lockdown from Sunday midnight

Due to the increasing rate of coronavirus infection in Brahmanbaria, the Sadar upazila administration has decided to mark three separate areas in the municipality as red zones and enforce lockdown there from Sunday midnight.

The three areas to go under lockdown in the municipality are Purbapaikpara of Ward 4, Madhyapara of Ward 5 and Kazipara of Ward 8.

The lockdown will be effective from 12am on Sunday and will remain in effect until June 26. As a result, the entrances and exits to those three areas of the town will remain closed during the lockdown period.

“The upazila coronavirus control and prevention committee sent a letter to the Civil Surgeon's office proposing the decision. The three areas were later declared as red zones from the Civil Surgeon's office with the approval of the Department of Health,” said Pankaj Barua, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer and chairman of the upazila coronavirus control and prevention committee.

He added: “Law enforcement members along with executive magistrates will patrol the areas under lockdown from Sunday midnight. A team led by the upazila health and family planning officer will also remain active in case of any health emergencies. And authorities concerned will ensure food support to residents under lockdown if required.”

Brahmanbaria Civil Surgeon Dr Ekram Ullah said: “The lockdown has been implemented with approval from the Department of Health. A public notification has been issued by the upazila administration in this regard.”
