A woman, who worked as household help, was reportedly abused and later pushed off a building rooftop by its landlord in Sadar upazila of Pabna.
The incident took place at a three-storey apartment building in Mahendrapur on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Maleka Khatun, 30, wife of Md Joynal from Lohagar Chamarpur.
The accused landlord Abdul Alim has been on the run following the incident.
Quoting locals, police said Maleka Khatun was called upon by Abdul Alim on Tuesday morning about a missing mobile phone. Later, Abdul Alim’s wife Lucky Khatun along with his mother-in-law physically abused Melaka and pushed her off the roof of their building.
Later, Abdul Alim recovered her body and dumped it at an unknown location in order to conceal the incident, claim locals.
While talking to Lucky Khatun, one of the accused, this correspondent found her reluctant to disclose any details regarding the incident.
Pabna Sadar police station OC Nasim Ahmed said: “Although we are still investigating into the woman’s death, we primarily suspect that the woman was murdered.”
