A local leader of Bangladesh Awami Sechchasebak League (BASL) was hacked to death by miscreants while he was going to the mosque in Bogra's Shajahanpur upazila on Friday morning.
Abu Hanif Pramanik, the organizing secretary of the district Sechchasebak unit, was accused in nine cases including four for murder.
He was the resident of Shakpala area under Shajahanpur upazila, said Shajahanpur police station Inspector Ambar Hossain.
According to the locals, Hanif sustained serious injuries on the head after he was hit with an axe by some miscreants at the Shakpala bus stand area around 11:30am. Seriously injured Hanif was rushed to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital. However, he died around 12pm while undergoing surgery at the hospital.
Regarding the matter, Sonatan Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (Bogura Sadar Circle), said that Hanif had been sued in nine cases including four for murder. "We suspect he might have been killed over past enmity. Police are conducting raids to nab the perpetrators."
