Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a union parishad chairman in a case filed over the murder of former national Kabaddi team player Kaium Sikdar from Bejpara area in Jessore town on Thursday.
The arrested, identified as Mahamudul Hasan Kayesh, 48 a chairman of Kolabaria Union Parishad of Narail's Kalia upazila, was handed over to Naragati police station on Friday morning.
Roksana Khatun, Naragati police station officer-in-Charge (OC), confirmed the matter.
Roksana said Kaium, who was the member of ward no 3 of the same union parishad, was hacked to death by rivals over past enmity on the night of 26 May in the Kalinagar area.
Later, on May 29, the deceased's son Naimul Islam filed a case naming 45 accused and 10/15 unnamed with the Naragati police station. The UP chairman Mahamudul Hasan Kayesh is the prime accused in the case said the OC.
Kaium, who took part in the South Asian Games in 1998 and 1999, joined politics after his retirement from Kabaddi in 2013. He was elected as a member of the Kalabaria Union Parishad in 2016.
