A suspected Rohingya robber has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox's Bazar.
The incident took place in Khandakarpara area of Teknaf on Friday afternoon, said Abdullah Md Sheikh Sadi, assistant director (Media) of RAB-15
The deceased Md Ishak, 32, is a member of a Rohingya robber gang called 'Jocky Bahini', said the RAB official.
He further said, acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers had gathered near Khandakarpara in Teknaf, a RAB patrol team conducted a drive there.
As soon as the patrol team arrived, the robbers opened fire at them, forcing RAB members to fire back in self-defence.
Later, they found Ishak's bullet-ridden body on the spot and took him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he added.
RAB also recovered two guns and 6 rounds of bullets from the spot and a case has been filed at Teknaf police station in connection with the incident, he concluded.
