Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained an alleged operative of banned militant outfit Allahr Dal in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
The detainee was identified as Md Faridul Islam, 35, of Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a special operational team of RAB 13 from its Rangpur headquarters conducted a drive in Gobindaganj upazila Monday night and detained the suspected militant, said a press release issued by RAB 13 Media Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Khondoker Golam Mortuza Tuesday afternoon.
During preliminary interrogation, the detainee confessed that he is an active member of the ‘Dawati Section’ of the banned militant organization.
The detainee also said that he regularly took part in secret meetings, recruited new members and raised funds for running their organizational activities in Gaibandha region since 2005.
After filing a case, the elite force handed the detainee over to Gobindaganj police station on Tuesday, and further investigation is on to nab his absconding cohorts and other members of the banned militant organisation.
