The local administration has taken all-out preparations in Bhasan Char to tackle the Super Cyclone Amphan that may cross the Bangladesh coast between Khulna-Chittagong late night of Wednesday.
Currently, 300 Rohingyas who were rescued in early May after floating adrift in the Bay of Bengal , are living at the Bhasan Char in Hatia upazila of Noakhali.
In addition to that, 300 more people including members of Bangladesh Navy and Police who are working to ensure security, are staying at the project area.
Hatia upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rezaul Karim said: "A total of 123 shelters have been built to tackle cyclone and tidal waves. Among them, 120 for Rohingyas, one for officials and the rest two for members of Bangladesh Navy and Police.”
Around 100,000 people could take shelter in the Bhasan Char, said the UNO.
Around 300 members of Red Crescent Society, 6,700 volunteers remain standby while dry foods, water have been stored to tackle the aftermath of the cyclone.
Deputy Commissioner Tanmoy Das said two 14-km river embankments were built here to protect the char from the tidal wave.
