Man kills wife, daughter before committing suicide in Rangpur

A man hanged himself after slitting the throats of his wife and their one and a half year old daughter in their sleep in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Hafizul Islam, his wife Fatema Begum, and their daughter Humaira of Balapara village, confirmed Gangachara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sushanto Kumar.

The cold-blooded murders likely resulted from a longstanding marital dispute between the couple, said police quoting locals.

According to locals, Hafizul and Fatema would often get into arguments about Hafizul’s reluctance towards working. The night before the incident, after a regular spat Hafizul told Fatema to leave the house with their daughter. Later, he went on to slit their throats with a sharp utensil while they were fast asleep on Saturday morning.

Afzalul Haque Raju, chairman of Borobil Union Parishad, said Fatema and her daughter were found with wounds on their throats on a bed, while Hafizul's body was found hanging from the ceiling inside their house in the morning.

On information, a police team recovered the bodies from the spot around 10am, which were then sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy.
