Drug trader killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

The deceased was identified as Showkat Ali, 30, a suspected drug dealer of the area.

Police made a drive to the area early morning Sunday on information that a huge drug trade is going to take place in Dhalarmukh of Ukhiya upazila. "When we reached the place, a group of drug dealers opened fire at us," said Ukhiya Police OC Md Nurul Islam.

When retaliated, the drug dealers fled the scene and we found the injured man with a bullet wound. 

“Critically injured Showkat died on the way to the hospital, added the OC.

Police detained five drug dealers and recovered around 1.10 lakh yaba pills from the spot.

“Five policemen were also injured in the gunfight including ASP Nihad Adnan,” confirmed OC Nurul.
