A Rohingya drug trader has been killed in an alleged gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident occurred near the Rahmaterbil border in the Palangkhali area of Ukhiya upazila on Thursday morning.
BGB Cox’s Bazar 34 Commanding Officer Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed confirmed the incident.
Acting on a tip off, BGB members took up positions in the Rahmaterbil border area. When they spotted two people coming from Myanmar’s side of the border, BGB members ordered them to halt. The men ignored their warnings and started firing in an attempt to get away. BGB returned fire, killing one of the two men.
The deceased was identified as Md Sadeque who lived in the Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya. He is the son of Abdul Jalil.
His body was sent to the morgue at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for post mortem.
Three thousand pieces of yaba, a firearm, and three rounds were also recovered from the scene.
