Leopard's cub rescued from Sylhet: Locals caught a cub of an Indian Leopard from Companiganj border area in Sylhet on Tuesday. They are speculating that the cub accidentally crossed the border from a nearby forest. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sumon Acharya said authorities from the forest department confirmed that it's a leopard's cub when the animal was handed over to them. Locals said some youths saw the cub walking around in Gucchagram village. They lured the cub into a cage and informed the law enforcers.

Pirojpur police pays homage to Martyr Faizur Rahman: Pirojpur district police paid homage to Martyr Faizur Rahman Ahmed at his grave in the Pirojpur municipality cemetery on Tuesday. Police officers placed floral wreaths observing his death anniversary. On May 5, of 1971, Faizur was shot to death by Pakistani occupation army. He was awarded the Independence Award posthumously. He is also known as the father of eminent writers late Humayun Ahmed and Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal. Among other police officials ASP Ahmed Mainul Hasan, ASP Molla Azad Hossain were present during the program.

Poachers detained with deer meat in Bagerhat: Forest Department officials detained three poachers with 30 kgs of venison on Monday afternoon in Tiarchar area in Sarankhola upazila. The arrested are Abul Kha, 42, and Sanjoy Mistri, 32, of Patharghata upazila in Barguna, and Asadul Sheikh, 25, of Dacope upazila, Khulna. Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer of Sundarban East Zone, said they detained the three poachers in a drive when a group of seven poachers put deer hunting trap in the forest and had already slaughtered two deer. Four among the poachers managed to escape.Meanwhile, they rescued 22 deers alive that were trapped earlier by the poacher gang.

Teenager arrested for raping minor: Police on Tuesday, arrested a 14-year-old teenager in connection with raping a 2nd grader schoolgirl last month in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur. According to the case filed by the victim's father, the accused raped the seven-year-old girl when she went to her tutor's home on April 26. The accused is the younger brother of the girl's tutor and he was alone in home when the girl reached there on the day of the incident, adds the case details. The girl fell sick that night and was taken to a local hospital. She was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital after her condition deteriorated. However, the girl's health condition is now improving, said Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abir Hossain.

OC tests positive for the coronavirus: Another officer-in-charge (OC) of a Munshiganj police station tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) yesterday. The OC of the police station was sent to home quarantine, confirmed the district's Civil Surgeon Dr Abul Kalam Azad. Previously another officer-in-charge (Investigation) of the police station was diagnosed with Covid-19. So far 197 people were tested positive for the virus in the district and of them 7 died.

Union council secretaries donate in DC's relief fund: Union council secretaries donated money equivalent to their one-day salary to the deputy commissioner's relief fund formed to help the needy and the jobless during the coronavirus pandemic. Raju Ahmed, coordinating secretary of the union council, said: "The district has 60 union councils. A total of Tk54,000 was added to the DC's relief fund after the donation." The money was handed over to DC Md Hafizur Rahman Choudhury at his office on Tuesday afternoon.

2 killed in Sirajganj road accidents: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj yesterday. The deceased were identified as Ismail Hossain, 45, and Pashan Ali, 50. Ismail was run over by a truck on Tuesday morning on the Bogra-Nagarbari regional highway in Raiganj area. Pashan was severely injured after an ambulance hit him on the highway early yesterday in Royhatti area. He died on the way to hospital. Hatikumrul highway police station OC Khairul Islam said the bodies were taken by the victims' families after the accidents.
