2 probe committees formed over baby’s birth on van in Satkhira

Two probe committees have been formed to investigate the incident of a woman giving birth to a baby on a van in front of Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

The office of the Satkhira Deputy Commissioner formed a three-member committee, headed by an additional deputy commissioner, while the district civil surgeon’s office formed the other three-member committee, headed by a gynaecologist, on Monday.

The committees have been asked to submit their reports within seven working days.

Speaking on the matter, deputy commissioner SM Mostofa Kamal said: "I have visited the woman and helped her with relief and cash. Besides, we have formed a committee, headed by additional deputy commissioner Md Badiuzzaman, to investigate the incident."

"I have watched the video footage of the incident, which is really heart-wrenching. We will take action after a three member-probe committee, headed by gynaecologist Ehesan Ara, submits its report." said Civil Surgeon Dr Hossain Safayet.

"We will not spare anyone who is found guilty." the civil surgeon added.

Earlier, on Friday, Shimuli Rani, a resident of Chonka village of Ghona union under Satkhira Sadar upazila, gave birth to a baby on a van in front of Satkhira Sadar Hospital after doctors at the hospital refused to admit the woman owing to fears of coronavirus infection.
