RAB comes to labourers' aid in Moulvibazar

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have provided 100 sacks of relief products to labourers in Moulvibazar. The labourers have been struggling to earn their livelihood amid the ongoing shutdown to curb the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19).

On Friday, RAB funded and transported the relief goods to labourers' doorsteps in Kulaura upazila from 8pm to 3am, according to RAB sources.

In a number of instances, the RAB personnel, carrying the sacks on their shoulders, took them to the homes of the beneficiaries in remote areas where it was difficult for vehicles to go, said Additional Superintendent of Police Md Anwar Hossain, who is also camp commander of RAB 9.

"We have a list of genuine destitute families as we have to stay engaged in law enforcing duties on the field. So we made a little effort from our own pockets to help the poor," added ASP Anwar.

Replying to a query about distributing the relief at night, Anwar said: "We are busy during the day. Distributing the goods was more convenient at night as we were on patrol duty at the time."

The relief sacks contained rice, oil and other foods that are locally used to prepare Iftar.
