A 26-year-old local journalist died after at least two hospitals denied him treatment over coronavirus fear in Satkhira.
Abdus Salam, a resident of Baroihati village in Tala upazila, breathed his last around 5:30pm on Wednesday.
His father Latif Morol said Salam, who was suffering from liver cirrhosis, was first taken to Tala Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday night.
Without examining him, the health complex referred Salam to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where no doctor came near him for 8 hours, suspecting he might have been infected with the Covid-19.
Frustrated by the bizarre behaviour of the hospitals, the family members decided to take Salam home on Wednesday morning. However, he died on the way to his home around 5:30pm on that day.
Speaking on the allegations, Satkhira Civil Surgeon Dr Hussain Safayet said: "Salam was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), but his family did not take him there."
