Police suspect Moulvibazar college student murdered after gang-rape

Police say they suspect the female college student, who was found dead in Moulvibazar's Rajnagar upazila on Friday, was murdered after gang-rape. Shammi Akhter, 18, was a second year student at Tarapasha School and College. Her body was recovered from a jungle at the upazila's Tengra union Friday afternoon, Rajnagar police's Officer-in-Charge Shyamal Banik said. Harun Mia, the victim's father, said his daughter had been missing since going to the loo Thursday night. The toilet is located just outside the house. Shammi's brother Shakib Mia said one of their neighbours, a cattle herder, found his sister's body after one of his buffaloes strayed into the jungle. OC Shyamal said: "The girl appears to have been murdered after gang-rape. We found wounds on her face.” The body has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
