Accused in 14 cases, killed in 'gunfight'

A suspected criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Pubail area of Gazipur early morning Monday.

The deceased Robiul Islam Robi, 32, son of Manik Miah, a resident of Tongi, was also a drug peddler.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kamruzzaman of RAB-1 said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force made the drive to the area and when they approached the area, some armed assailants opened fire, triggering a skirmish.

When RAB officials retaliated, the assailants fled the spot and the RAB team arrested injured Robi who sustained gunshot wounds in the gunfight, said the official. 

Later, he died while being taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, RAB sources said.

RAB recovered a foreign made pistol, 11 bullets, and 3,840 piece Yaba pills from the spot.

Robi was accused in 14 cases of murder, drug trade, and robbing incidents, said the RAB official.
