Four held for blackmailing, gang-raping teenager multiple times: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) caught four people on Monday accused in a case filed for raping a teenage girl. The accused Md Nisan Ali, 22, Md Zohurul Islam Jony, 21, Md Shamim Reza, 22 and Md Himel, 23 were arrested from Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj. RAB sources said the accused persons raped the teenage girl and recorded footage of the incident a few months ago. They raped her several times later and also took money from her threatening to spread the video over the internet.

50 injured in B’baria clash: Around 50 people were injured in clashes between two groups over a trifle in Nasirnagar upazila, Brahmanbaria. The clashes took place in different places from 7pm to 9pm on Sunday. Police used shotgun and tear gas to bring the situation under control. A number of police personnel were injured and given first aid. Nasirnagar police station SI Md Kabir Hossain said the dispute occurred between the groups over a member of one party driving tractors on another party’s farmland. The situation is now under control, added the SI.

500 labourers to leave Ctg for harvesting paddy: Although paddy has ripened in the haor areas, there is an acute shortage of labourers to reap the crops. The ripe paddy may go under floodwaters if the harvesting gets delayed. Under such circumstances, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken an initiative to send l500 labourers to the haor areas for harvesting paddy. Ensuring social distancing, 100 labourers initially left for the haor areas on five buses from Chittagong on Sunday, said CMP Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan,

Two injured from gas cylinder blast die under treatment: A man and his son who had sustained severe burn injuries in a cylinder explosion in Bera upazila, Pabna, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday. The deceased were identified as Abu Sheikh, 70, and his son Kalam Sheikh, 45. Bera police station OC Shahid Mahmud said six people were wounded when a cylinder went off in a house in Shekhpara area of the upazila on Thursday.

FMC begins testing for coronavirus: Faridpur Medical College Hospital (FMC) started testing for coronavirus (Covid-19) infection on Monday. It is capable of testing 94 samples a day. For testing samples, a PCR machine has been set up on the third floor of the medical college, said Dr Saifur Rahman, director of the hospital. One thousand kits have been sent to the medical college from Dhaka. Testing will be carried out from 10am to 6pm every day. Besides, a committee has been formed for running the lab.

2,200 families receive food support on behalf of minister Obaidul Quader: 2,200 poor families in Companiganj upazila, Noakhali, received foodstuff on behalf of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who is also the Awami League general secretary. Members of the district Awami League volunteered at the distribution programme at 12 noon Monday. Among others, various union council members and union chairpersons were present.

Awami League leader fined for defying social distancing directive in Gopalganj: A mobile court has fined a union unit Awami League leader Tk10,000 over forcing a local tea stall to open and drinking tea there with his friends, defying directives related to social distancing by the government. The accused Sheikh Ilias, 45, is the vice president of Mahmudpur union unit Awami League in Kashiani upazila, according to Kashiani Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabbir Ahmed on Monaday.
