Coronavirus: Banshkhali upazila put under lockdown

The local administration has decided to put Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong under complete lockdown to prevent the transmission of the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

The upazila committee to contain and prevent coronavirus took the decision on Friday, in accordance with the Infectious Disease (Prevention, Control and Elimination) Act, 2018.   

The lockdown came into effect from Friday and it will remain in place until further notice, said Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Momena Akter.

“Neither people nor vehicles can enter the upazila until further notice.”

Emergency services, including medical services and supply of agricultural goods and food, will not fall under the purview of the lockdown.

As of Friday, 33 patients have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Chittagong district. Of them, five patients including three men and two women have died of the viral disease.
