In an unexpected turn of events, five stray dogs, suspected to be starved for food for days, have killed a deer and three fawns in Rajshahi.
The incident took place in the Shaheed AHM Kamruzzaman Botanical Garden and Zoo early Friday.
"The stray dogs might have killed the deer as they could not find any leftovers as the restaurants in the city are closed down due to the ongoing shutdown, enforced to prevent the spread of coronavirus," said Shariful Islam, supervisor of the zoo, when contacted.
Shariful Islam added: "15 fawns were born in the last three months and there were 75 deers in the zoo. After the attack of the dogs, the number of the deer now stand at 71.”
However, to hush up the incident, the authorities hurriedly buried the remains of the deer and three fawns.
The country is observing a general holiday from March 26 to April 11 as the government is enforcing social distancing to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus.
