At least 100 families in Rosulbagh area of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj were placed under lockdown on Thursday night after a woman died earlier in the area tested positive for coronavirus.
Bandar upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shukla Sarkar confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune around 12 am on Friday.
Shukla said: "The 45-year-old woman suffering from respiratory problems went to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment on March 29. On-duty doctors of the hospital advised the woman to go to Kurmitola General Hospital. Without paying heed to the doctors, the patient returned to her home in Rosulbagh area.
"As the woman's condition deteriorated, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) first and later refered to Kurmitola General Hospital. However, the woman died on the way to the hospital on March 30. The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) collected samples as the patient died with coronavirus symptoms."
"Later, on Thursday, the IEDCR confirmed that the woman was infected with coronavirus. Following the incident, administration decided to lock down the area." she added
The official also said that during the lockdown, the families will be given all out help.
When contacted, regarding the matter, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Imtiaz said: "We are collecting samples from the family members of the deceased for conducting tests."
