A 70-year-old man, who was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with Tuberculosis (TB) like symptoms, died at the coronavirus isolation ward of the hospital.
The deceased Sultan Sheikh, 70, breathed his last around 9:30am on Sunday. He came to the hospital with mild breathing difficulties, and had also suffered a stroke in the past, hospital sources say.
He was under isolation since Friday, as the regular hospital admission was shut-down due to the coronavirus outbreak, said Dr Shoilendra Nath Biswas, in-charge of the coronavirus unit of the 500-bed hospital.
“Although Sultan was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), he was kept under the 150-bed coronavirus isolation unit as we were not admitting regular patients at the hospital and also as a precautionary measure,” the physician added.
Confirming the death, Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed said Sultan was undergoing treatment at the coronavirus unit, but he had been suffering from tuberculosis.
Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has been informed about his death, but its officials said there is no need to collect and test his sample as he had no symptoms of contracting the disease, the official said.
"Hence, the body was handed over to the family," he added.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, both the officials said regular operation would soon resume at the hospital.
