Police filed a case against some 1,000 workers of Rupali Bangla Jute Mill over the clash that killed an innocent man and injured three policemen in Birol upazila of Dinajpur.
The workers of Rupali Bangla Jute Mill began demonstrating in front of the factory demanding their due wages on Wednesday night. At one point, the demonstration turned violent and the workers began vandalizing the factory.
Birol police station OC Sheikh Nasim Habib said: “Police personnel were forced to fire rubber bullets and tear shells in self-defence. The clash left one dead, and three policeman and 10 jute mill workers injured.”
The deceased, Surat Ali, 40, was a tea-vendor working near the Rupali Bangla Jute Mill. He suffered injuries during the clash and was taken to Birol Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
His body was handed over to his family after the autopsy on Thursday, the OC also added.
