An expatriate, who returned from Italy, has died at a hospital in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj.
The 60-year-old man, who returned to Bangladesh on January 28, died at Sayed Yousuf Memorial Hospital around 10:30pm on Sunday.
The upazila health and family planning official, Dr Bulbul Ahmed, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The elderly man, a resident of Jagannathpur village in Bhairab, was suffering from fever, cold and coughing, he said.
He fell ill on March 21 and was taken to Abedin Hospital from where he was then referred to Sayed Yousuf Memorial Hospital, the official said.
When asked if the man died from Covid-19, Bulbul, also the member secretary of the local committee formed to fight coronavirus infection, said: "The matter will be cleared after medical investigation."
The district Civil Surgeon, Dr Mujibur Rahman, said officials at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) have taken samples from the body to determine whether he was infected with coronavirus or not.
Meanwhile, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Lubna Farzana said the administration has limited the movement of the residents of the man's house and its neighboring houses.
