A man has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife and shaving her head in public for refusing to engage in prostitution.
The incident occurred at Mistripara village in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon Saturday afternoon.
The accused Amirul Islam, 47, was arrested from Dangibazar on Tuesday after the victim, filed a case in this regard.
Locals said Amirul had been married multiple times and all of his wives had left him due to his abuse.
The victim said she was married to Amirul 12 years ago and had been victim to abuse over trifling matters since then.
For the last two years, he had been trying to force her to have sex with a number of people, which she refused to comply with.
Following the repeated refusals, Amirul got furious and dragged her out of the house on Saturday last. He beat her up mercilessly and shaved her head.
At one stage, she managed to flee and take shelter in the house of one of her relatives at Phultala village in the upazila.
Baliadangi police station OC Habibul Haque Pradhan said, acting on the case, we have arrested the victim’s husband and will soon take necessary actions against him.
