4 hacked in attack led by Patuakhali MP’s PA, 1 held

A fish enclosure owner and his three sons were hacked in an attack allegedly led by personal assistant (PA) of Patuakhali 4 MP Mohibur Rahman in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.

The attack was reportedly carried out in a bid to occupy their fish enclosure in Kawar Char around 7pm on Thursday.

A suspect, Shahin Mridha, was arrested on Friday after a case was filed against 20 people, including PA Tariqul Islam, said Mohipur police station OC Mahbubul Alam.

He said they were trying to arrest the other accused.

On Thursday evening, the brothers were working at their enclosure, when Tariqul’s men came to impede on their work. As they protested, Tariqul’s men hacked and injured the brothers along with their father.

Afterwards, fish enclosure owner Mahbubur Rahman Hawlader, and his sons Nur Bahadur, Sohel, and Jewel Hawlader were admitted to the Kalapara Upazila Health Complex with critical injuries. Later, Nur was taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal for better treatment. 

After they were admitted to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, Tariqul’s associates reportedly attacked them again there. 

When asked about the matter, Tariqul claimed that he had to connection to the incident.
