Two men were arrested early on Monday in Pirojpur for raping a tenth grader in the district’s Mathbaria upazila.
The arrested are Nayan Molla, 19, and Ariful Islam, 20.
According to police sources, the two accused abducted the victim when she was returning home after a tuition session around 9.30pm on Sunday and took her to one Ilias’ house near Kollakata Bridge in the area. Nayan and Ariful then raped the girl.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family contacted the police soon after she went missing.
Acting on a tip-off, Mathbaria police station Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam detained the two accused and rescued the girl around 3.30am.
Masuduzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station, said a case had been filed in this connection while the girl was sent to the district civil surgeon’s office for a medical check-up.
Rapist handed life imprisonment
In another incident, a Barisal court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a girl.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abu Shamim Azad pronounced the verdict on Sunday evening after cross-examining 5 of 11 witnesses in the case.
The convict, Babu Molla of Char Kalekhan under Barisal’s Muladi upazila, is however absconding.
The court also fined Babu Tk1 lakh, imposing an additional three years’ imprisonment if the fine remained unpaid.
Giving a brief description of the case, Ajibor Rahman, bench clerk of the court, said Babu violated the girl by promising to marry her on March 23, 2012. He raped her several other times with the same false promise.
On August 6, 2012, when the victim pressured him to register the marriage, Babu denied the relationship and fled the area.
Later, the victim filed a case with Muladi police station. Sub-Inspector Sanjib Chandra Shil, investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against the accused on October 31, 2012.
