Three people were killed in reported gunfights with police in Dinajpur and Pabna on early Thursday.
In Dinajpur, two suspected robbers were killed at Chhoto Magura village in Nawabganj upazila.
The deceased Wajed Ali, 30, and Rafikul Islam, 28, both members of a robber gang, was arrested Wednesday evening, said Nawabganj police OC Ashok Kumar.
He said with information provided by the duo, police took them on a drive Chhoto Magura village to recover firearms.
As soon as police reached the area, other gang members opened fire and tried to snatch Wajed and Rafiqul away, forcing police to fire back in self defence. During the skirmish, the two robbers sustained gunshot injuries from their own gang members as they tried to flee the scene, the OC said.
Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Four policemen, including Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Shamsul Islam, were injured in the gunfight.
Injured policemen were admitted to Dinajpur Police Line Hospital. Police also recovered a gun and 15 bullets from the scene.
In Pabna, a supposed wanted criminal was killed in Char Shibrampur of Hemayetpur union in Sadar upazila.
The deceased Habban, 50, was wanted in 12 cases, say police.
Pabna Superintendent of Police Sheikh Rafikul Islam said: “Acting on a tip off, a police team conducted a drive at a banana orchard in Char Shibrampur area at 2am Thursday.”
As soon as the police team arrived at the scene, criminals opened fire on them, forcing police to fire back in self defence.
At one stage, criminals were forced to back off and police arrested Habban from the spot with gunshot injuries.
Habban was taken to Pabna General Hospital in critical condition where duty doctors declared him dead.
Four policemen were injured in the shootout. Police also recovered a revolver, five bullets, and two bullet casings from the scene.
